Plusted by the degradation of the energy balance and manufactured products, France’s trade deficit was still dug in June to reach 7.7 billion euros.

due to an increase in imports that exceeds that of exports, customs said on Thursday, August 7.
France not on the front line of “Trump prices”
Since the entry into force of additional provisional customs duties in the United States at the beginning of April, which has become effective Thursday for products from dozens of savings, France exports to the United States “decrease slightly” in annual shift, customs note. On the other hand, the evolution of exports to the United States “does not allow for the moment to identify a manifest effect of customs duties” and customs do not observe a “significant drop” of France’s exports to the United States compared to the same period in 2024.
This drop in exports from France to the United States is also less compared to those observed in its main European partners, Germany in mind.

At the lowest since February 2022, in a third consecutive month of decline.
And the rise in imports from China, Southeast Asia, Mexico and Canada could translate a “possible postponement to France” and the EU of part of the exports of these countries, notes the press release.

Throughout the second quarter of 2025, customs indicate that exports decreased by 2.3%, due to the drop in energy prices and electricity exports in value, as well as a decline in exports of aeronautical products, ships and boats. The trend concerning these transport materials has nevertheless improved in June, bringing French industrial production to a spectacular rebound over the month.
