Franco-Swiss photographer Thaddé Comar won the 15th edition of the Friborg photographic survey with his “overturning” project. friborg: when carnival becomes subject In addition, devoted to the carnival practices of the canton, as the culture service announces in a press release this Monday. Born in 1993 and a graduate of ECAL in 2018, Thaddé Comar is currently living in the Paris region. His photographic work. recognized by several distinctions including a Swiss Design Award in 2023, combines aesthetic and documentary approach to explore contemporary social dynamics. His works were exhibited in prestigious places like Paris Photo, the meetings of Arles and Art Basel.
A look at collective identity
For this survey. the photographer will be interested in the traditional and heritage elements of the carnival while questioning the questions of identity friborg: when carnival becomes subject and community. He will not only capture the festive moments. but also the sets, costumes, gestures and emotions that make up the carnival imagination. The carnivals of Friborg, Bulle, Broc, Morat and Châtel-St-Denis will be part of its exploration.
The winner benefits from a scholarship of 20,000 francs to carry out his project. The results of this survey will be presented in a publication and exposure to the BCU in early 2027.
Created in 1996 by the Council of State on the proposal of the Directorate of Training. Cultural Affairs, the Friborg photographic survey takes place every two years. This initiative aims to encourage photographic creation while gradually constituting a contemporary cantonal photographic heritage. The next edition will be put in the competition during the first quarter of 2027.
