From the new from the Mitis to the Côte-de-Gaspé

From the Mitis to the Côte-de-Gaspé, obviously passing through the Matania and the Haute-Gaspés, here are some summer novelties which are undoubtedly the stop for local holidays along the northern coast of the Gaspé peninsula.

At the edge of the Mitis, the judgment is essential at the magnificent Métis gardens which celebrate this year on the 100the Anniversary of the introduction of the blue poppy, the emblem of the gardens, in the Western horticultural world by Frank Kingdon-Ward. If the latter is no longer in flowering, the artistic installation Gravity Field, it should be with magnificent hanging rounds spinning airs. A real crush! Note that the popular blue stick forest is back.

In Matanie, the canteen La Petite Shrimp is in its third season. Installed near the brand new building that hosts the public market near the Matane River, it is very suitable for a delicious guédille with lobster or shrimp. It is the same in Cap-Chat where the canteen the gourmet waves has just appeared. The judgment is also won in Petite-Vallée where the legendary theater of the Old Forge has just reborn from its ashes.

At Exploramer, I was fascinated by the new exhibition Refuges which makes discover the mysterious universe of sponges and corals. Launched last year, the permanent exhibition Me, the St. Lawrence Allows it to meet crustaceans, fish, molluscs, and many others through the voice of the river.

Rivière-au-Renard, the capital of fishing

To have already stopped there sometimes, it was frankly a nice surprise to discover that the Rivière-au-Renard site, inaugurated last fall, is changing the face of this village recognized as the “capital of the Maritime Fisheries of Quebec”.

The new development includes a beach, a pedestrian walk that recounts rich maritime history and an observation tower. Like Exploration appears to me as an essential judgment to better understand the St. Lawrence River before undertaking a tour of the Gaspésie, the new immersive activity Cap offshore In turn will allow the extent of the working conditions surrounding the fishing conditions on the high seas. through a short immersive film, we are transported in the reality of a harsh profession where the know-how is transmitted from generation to generation. In this old Robin building, moving seats, wind and burnt effect contribute to making us feel this reality as evidenced by local fishermen. Really a very nice activity!
