Gallant Commission: Ministers Guilbault and Bonnardel expected next week

The Minister of Transport of Quebec, Geneviève Guilbault, is expected before the Gallant Commission next week to testify within the framework of the investigation into the Fiasco Saaqclic. His predecessor, François Bonnardel, must also be called upon to testify.

This information was confirmed in Radio-Canada by a government source. The testimony of the Caquis ministers is scheduled for the end of next week, but it could be offset if the work of the previous days are stretching.

François Bonnardel held the post of Minister of Transport between 2018 and 2022 – four critical years for the realization of the project.

The commission’s public hearings, which have been released since June 20, must resume on Monday. This week is expected to be devoted to the role of the Ministry of Transport in the digital transition of the Quebec Automobile Insurance Company (SAAQ).

At the start of the week, Commissioner Denis Gallant will hear the ministers of transport under the previous liberal government, Laurent Lessard and André Fortin.

Weeks devoted to ministers and political staff

Other ministers could be called in the following weeks. The name of the former Minister of Cybersecurity Éric Caire, who has left his duties at the heart of the storm launched by the devastating report of the Quebec CEO, would be high in the list.

The next three weeks of hearings of the Gallant Commission will be held in Montreal and will be devoted to the links between politics and the Casa project, the name given to the great digital metamorphosis initiated by the Saaq In 2015.

We cite in particular issues related to the security of elected officials to justify the fact that their testimonies take place in the metropolis and not in Quebec, where the work of the commission will move later.

Who knew what? is a central question in the mandate entrusted to Commissioner Gallant. For the time being, documents show that certain presentations made to ministers and cabinets contained lies or half-truths.

Other witnesses, including the former CEO of the SaaqDenis Marsolais, however, said that the political staff had indeed been informed of future cost.

Public works must end at the beginning of October. Commissioner Denis Gallant will then have until December 15 to make his final report, according to the extension which was granted to him by the Legault government in June.
