The end of the emergency tax condemns the guards of the Pediatric Center of Lancy
The invoicing restriction of this compensation has jeopardized the structure. The site will no longer welcome consultations excluding conventional schedules.

- The Pediatric Center of Lancy will stop its guards in August.
- More than 12,000 children are taken care of annually in the three pediatric emergency centers.
- The Geneva Pediatric Society plans to organize guards in voluntary offices.
The CBetween Pediatric of Lancy Sàrl will give up guards from August 1ᵉʳ. It is one of the three sites welcoming penalty pediatricians for emergencies outside conventional schedules. In question in particular: the departure of a pediatrician as well as the shortfall caused by the abolition of an emergency tax.
The invoicing of this compensation of around forty francs, aimed at compensating for the work carried out outside the conventional schedules (evening, public holiday and weekend), was Little last summer by the Federal Court. This pressing tax would be unduly surfed, according to some insurers. Following this, funds refused to take care of it and some even asked for its retroactive reimbursement, which represents hundreds of thousands of francs. What panic In many medical centers in Switzerland.
In February, the manager of the center of Lancy confided us be in this case. He did not wish to speak today. The activity of the cabinet is maintained.
Guards on three sites
The disappearance of this emergency offer has a blow to the tendering supply offer. The Lancean structure is one of the three sites, with the Eaux-Vives medical center and the Tour hospital, which host the system of The guard of the Geneva Pediatric Society (SGP) intended for 0 to 16 years old, excluding vital emergencies. This guard is provided by on -call pediatricians, who officiate on the three sites, to relieve in particular the University Hospitals of Geneva.
These centers provide their premises as well as the paramedical staff in the evening, the holidays and weekends. In return, pediatricians donate around a third of the fees collected to them (which includes the tax). More than 12,000 children are taken care of each year.
Load postponement risk
Does the closure of the center of Lancy threaten the sustainability of the guard of the SGP? The two co-presidents of the company, Martine Bideau and Jean-Yves Corajod, are not alarmist but warn: “There will logically have a load of load on the two remaining sites, this should be absorbable during the summer period, which is rather calm. On the other hand, for winter and its share of viruses, you will have to find a solution. If the guard is saturated, it will overload hospital emergencies, enough to alter the quality of care and cause an increase in costs. ”
The SGP is studying the option of organizing guards in the future in the firms of voluntary doctors. “This requires organization in terms of human resources and technical platform. But we will do everything to continue to offer the same quality of care. ”
Another pitfall complicates the maintenance of this quality: the workforce. “In Switzerland, 40% of pediatricians will retire for the next ten years, reports Martine Bideau. The shortage is already effective and announced. Between The drop in point tarmed Last year, the abolition of the pressing tax – finally restored for childcare pediatricians -, an income which has neither increased nor indexed in thirty years, increasingly precarious conditions, first -recourse medicine is absolutely not valued. You have to remedy it urgently. “
Strengthen coordination
Regarding the closure of the Lancy site, the cantonal doctor Alessandro Cassini indicates that his service remains “extremely vigilant about the evolution of the attendance of other structures. This follow -up will start this summer to allow us to adjust the device if necessary before the winter period. ”
Its service is currently working to strengthen the coordination of pressing consultations in Geneva for the end of 2025, in order to guarantee quality care, including during seasonal peaks.
Retrocession requested from the center of the vive water
The problem of the pressing tax also concerns the center of the vive water, which depends on the Swiss Medical Network group. An insurer imposed a retrocession, which represents a “significant” loss to provision. “A dispute is still underway,” confirms Vincent Michellod, regional director Geneva of the group. Several exchanges have taken place in a constructive climate, and we do not despair of convincing him of the merits of our practice. ”
For the time being, childcare activity is not threatened, he says. “We are choosing to maintain this offer despite the repeated attacks that liberal medicine undergoes.”
The director says still regrets “strongly” that one of the sites had to give up guards, “even if this unfortunate consequence was largely predictable. This scenario will happen again if we continue to degrade the conditions for the exercise of first -recourse medicine. ”
