Thomas Dohmke announced that he would leave his duties as Github CEO by the end of 2025 to become an entrepreneur again. Github will be integrated into the Coreai organization in Microsoft.
Thomas Dohmke, CEO of Github since 2021, announced that he will leave his duties by the end of 2025 to become an entrepreneur, according to a press release. In a message addressed to employees, he returned to his ten years spent in the United States since the sale of his start-up in Microsoft. This reorganization provides that Github will continue its mission within Coreai, Microsoft’s division dedicated to AI.
Arrived at GitHub after several positions at Microsoft, he recalls that the platform now has more than 150 million developers and more than a billion deposits and Forks, with a doubling of AI projects in one year. Among the striking achievements, he cites the evolution of GitHub Copilot towards extensive functions such as Cat, Voice and Github Spark, as well as international expansion and the strengthening of security with Github Advanced Security.
So far, Github, bought in 2018, operated relatively independently despite its status as a subsidiary. According to the media The Verge, its complete rapprochement with Coreai of Microsoft would result in a loss of autonomy: the function of CEO would not be replaced. “Github and his management team will continue their mission within the Coreai organization in Microsoft, with more details to come soon,” says Thomas Dohmke. He will stay in office until the end of the year to support the transition.
