Google buys 3 gigawatts from Brookfield; The web giant signs an agreement never seen by a company

Google will buy up to three gigawatts of hydroelectricity in the United States in Brookfield Asset Management, an agreement never seen for a company.

The 20 -year -old agreement and a value of three billion dollars provides for electricity purchase contracts from two Pennsylvania hydroelectric power plants. It is recalled that the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, has already been one of the leaders of Brookfield Asset Management for more than four years.

The technological industry is looking for large quantities of clean electricity in order to supply the data centers necessary for artificial intelligence and cloud information.

A trend that has increased American energy consumption at record levels in recent years.

Ruth Porat, president and investment head of investments at Alphabet, the mother company of Google, must express themselves on the subject at a summit on Pittsburgh.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, is also expected at the event, where investment announcements totaling $ 70 billion in artificial and energy intelligence are planned.

“This collaboration with Brookfield constitutes a major advance, which guarantees its own energy supply in the PJM region where we are active,” said Amanda Peterson Corio, energy manager for Google data centers, by press release.

As part of this new agreement, Google signed an agreement with Brookfield, owner of Brookfield Renewable Partners, which develops and operates renewable energy installations.

According to Semafor, the Californian giant also plans to invest $ 25 billion in data centers in Pennsylvania and neighboring states over the next two years.
