Google Home has a new interface, but not the one we expected

The overhaul of multimedia commands in the Google Home app finally begins to appear. A clearer interface, but which differs a little from what Google had announced.

Google finally deploys a long -awaited update of its application Google Home. Announced from last November, this overhaul of multimedia orders is done gradually, with some notable differences from what had been initially promised.

A more modern interface, but a little different from that announced

So far, Google Home’s multimedia commands were based on an old circular cursor, not very ergonomic and visually dated. The update, being deployed with version 3.37 of the app, replaces this interface with a lighter reader, based on the Material 3 standards.

The appearance of the new reader takes up that already visible on Pixel smartphones, especially in the notification panel. There is a classic progress bar at the bottom, surrounded by the previous and following buttons. The reading/pause button is present in the center, while a logo at the top left indicates the application being read. A horizontal cursor allows you to adjust the volume, and other specific buttons are added depending on the connected device, such as “opening the remote control” for Google TV users or “See Nest Cam” on Nest Hub Max screens.

But unlike the visuals published last year, this new version does not show the cover of the album being read. The interface is functional, but more sober than what Google had initially glimpsed.

A new gesture to change account

Another adjustment accompanies this update: the account change menu can now open with a simple sliding to the left. A detail that shows that Google continues to refine the general ergonomics of its application.

As often, this new interface arrives by waves in users of the application. Some of them already have access to these new checks in the “Public Preview” version of the app, others still see no change. Once is not customary, the changes are activated on the server side and are therefore not available for everyone at the same time, but it should not be long.
