Half cheaper than the current model, the new MG4 launches in China at an unbeatable price

The MG4 made a box in Europe thanks to its ultra-aggressive prices. It is currently displayed from € 24,990 in France, despite the important compensatory customs duties to which it is subject to European level. MG is now launching the marketing of its second generation on the Chinese market.

The compact gains ten centimeters in length to display a total of 4.395 m. It also softens its lines, which will undoubtedly be more unanimous than those of the current model, but it cannot be said that the novelty seems much more modern.

And for good reason, the current MG4 was only launched in 2022. Besides, the model presented in China will not be marketed in Europe immediately, MG preferring to develop the current generation with a restyling scheduled for the end of the year in Europe.

The launch of the new MG4 remains an important event in China, especially since its prices are even more aggressive than what was hoped for. The electric compact thus costs it from ¥ 73,800, the equivalent of just under € 9,000. This price is down 47 % compared to that of the previous model in China.

A new battery with semi-solid electrolyte

At this price, the MG4 is equipped with a battery cell-to-body LFP of 42.8 kWh offering 437 km of autonomy according to the Chinese approval cycle CLTC, which we know particularly optimistic. An LFP battery of 53.9 kWh is also offered, from ¥ 105,800, the equivalent of just under € 13,000. This time it offers 530 km of autonomy according to the same homologation cycle.

Finally, the MG4 will soon offer a battery with semi-solid electrolyte, a new technology that the SAIC group has shown with the high-end IM L6 sedan. The details are still thin about this version of the MG4, whose prices will be announced in September for first deliveries before the end of the year.

This new MG4 will in particular compete with Byd Dolphin. Thanks to its downward prices, it becomes more accessible than its rival, sold in China from ¥ 99,800, the equivalent of around € 12,000.
