One in three Swiss plans to change your sick person
According to a study published on Tuesday, 30% of the Helvetians even say they are ready to completely give up the insurance obligation.
People aged 50-59 years more frequently change sickness.

The tendency to change health insurance is accelerating in Switzerland, with 32% of the population who plans to leave their cash register in 2026, according to a survey carried out by the online comparator bonus.ch And whose results were broadcast this Tuesday, August 5.
The study, carried out with more than 4,500 people in May 2025, also revealed a surprising fact: 30% of insured people declare themselves ready to give up the obligation of health insurance.
The successive increases in bonuses triggered a wave of insurer changes. After an average increase of 6% of bonuses in 2025, 17% of Swiss changed from the cashier. By combining the last three years, 53% of the insured have changed their affiliation at least once since 2023, a period marked by significant increases of 6.6% in 2023 and historic of 8.7% in 2024.
Anger rumbles in Ticino
Italian Switzerland displays the highest change rate, with 21% of the insured who left their cash register in 2025, against 17% in German -speaking and French -speaking Switzerland. Even more worrying, 66% of Ticino planned to change for 2026, illustrating a rupture with the current system in this region particularly affected by an average increase of 10.5% of premiums in the past two years.
Age also strongly influences the propensity to change insurer. The 50-59 year olds are the most mobile, with a quarter of them having changed cash in 2025. Conversely, the insureders aged 80 and over remain widely faithful to their insurer, with only 13% of change and 85% who do not plan to terminate for 2026.
Faced with the continuous increases in bonuses, the population questions the foundations of the system. In this context, 30% of Swiss say they are ready to abandon the obligation to ensure, a figure that rises to 46% in Italian Switzerland. Regarding measures to reduce costs, 36% of insured people favor returning to the family doctor’s model as the first gateway to the care system.
Paradoxically, despite the increases in bonuses, overall satisfaction remains high with an average score of 5.09 out of 6 attributed to the sickness funds, slightly 0.01 points compared to 2024. Helsana, Swica and Visana are the best rated insurers in 2025, with a general note of 5.3 out of 6.
