The heat spares almost no one in Quebec these days. It extends from the American border to the extreme north of the province. A heat warning is even in force in Kuujjuaq, in North-du-Québec … A first! Explanations.
As hot in Kuujjuaq as in Montreal
Mercury could reach 30 ° C Friday in Kuujjuaq, as much as what is planned in Montreal, or even more. With a warning threshold set at 26 ° C, combined with nights greater than 12 ° C for at least two days, the village and the other communities of Ungava bay fulfill the criteria established by Environment Canada for the dissemination of these alerts in the North Quebec – a novelty of this year.
“A heat warning is issued when very hot or humid conditions should have a high risk of heat -related discomfort, such as heat strokes and exhaustion due to heat,” said Environment Canada on its website.
It is therefore a first which may repeat itself quite regularly and which illustrates how generalized heat is throughout Quebec territory.
A heavy and persistent air mass
In the south of Quebec, the temperatures felt reached 35 Thursday and could exceed 40 Sunday, depending on the model. The presence of an atmospheric crest that sets in solidly promotes a sequence of warm, humid and unstable time.
Ideal conditions for the formation of thunderstorms
This warm and humidity atmosphere also leads to a risk of thunderstorms which should continue on Friday, although with less intensity than Thursday. Saturday is rather calm and sunny in southern Quebec. Instability should be back on Sunday.
