The divers of the Sûreté du Québec is continuing their research this Monday in the waters of Lake Watshishou, located in a remote area north of Havre-Saint-Pierre and Natashquan on the North Shore, in order to find four people who took place in a helicopter that crashed on Friday.
The BK117 model helicopter of the Airmedic company carried out the medical evacuation of a patient. The device crashed shortly after taking off on Friday evening, around 10:30 p.m.
A member of the crew managed to get out of the device after the crushing and survived. The other four people, three crew members and the patient, are still sought after by the Sûreté du Québec.
During the weekend, aircraft of the Royal Canadian aviation carried out “in-depth visual research in the area corresponding to the last known position of the Air Medic helicopter,” the spokesman of the Canadian Armed Forces, Lieutenant-commander Len Hickey, said by email. The latter specifies that the teams of the Canadian Armed Forces ended their research operations at 3 p.m. Sunday. Only the Sûreté du Québec now continues research.
In a statement issued on Monday afternoon, Airmedic “reiterated his decision to temporarily suspend his operations in order to prioritize the well-being of his teams”. “This is a moment of deep sadness for the entire big Airmedic family. This tragedy upsets us all. This is why we have set up all the psychosocial resources necessary to support our employees, ”read the press release.
