Ifixit about the Switch 2 Pro controller: “A shabby excuse for a controller” –

The new Nintendo Switch 2 Pro controller has passed under a microscope in the latest Ifixit disassembly video, the chain that has made a name by dismantling electronic devices and judging how much your gadgets are really suitable for DIY. And they do not hold back when it comes to this latest Nintendo controller, which they denounce as “absolutely unacceptable.”

Even something as simple as replacing the battery – which will inevitably be necessary thereafter – requires to snatch a glued front panel. You must then remove almost half of the internal components, including the printed circuit. It is an unnecessarily complicated (and probably intentional) process.

Despite its high price of $ 85, the controller does not even use hall effect joysticks. No, Nintendo still uses old joysticks with potentiometer, known for their drift. And to replace them? It is also a real headache. You will once again have to open the glued panel and dismantle much more than you should.

The verdict? Nintendo delivered a controller with an elegant look with a solid feeling in hand, but it is a time bomb with regard to ease of maintenance and technology of the joysticks. Ifixit also underlines that there are cheaper alternatives on the market with better features, hall effects and a much easier battery replacement. The only positive point? Nintendo always seems to be committed to solving drift problems, if you are ready to go through this process.
