Israel-PalestineIn New York, Switzerland supports the two -state solution
During the UN conference, the Swiss Secretary of State supported the creation of a Palestinian State, under certain conditions.

DfaeSwitzerland has participated in the last three days in the UN conference in New York concerning the two -state solution for Israel and Palestine, proposed by France and Saudi Arabia. Switzerland was represented by the Secretary of State, Monika Schmutz Kirgöz, head of the Middle East division and North Africa of the DFAE.
In a statement published this Wednesday, the DFAE said that it presented Switzerland’s position and “exhorted all parties to mobilize resolutely and constructively in favor of lasting peace. Switzerland is ready to determine international efforts with determination to implement the two -state solution. ”
This is a clearer position of Switzerland, which had put aside such an option lately. But today: “from the point of view of Switzerland, it is equally important to restore a political perspective and to adopt diplomatic measures without delay aimed at concretizing the two -state solution, which provides for the peaceful coexistence of Israel and Palestine within safe and recognized borders”.
Pending concrete measures
“Switzerland is convinced that this solution is the only one capable of guaranteeing peace, security and dignity to the Israeli and Palestinian populations,” continues the press release. But it is specified that “this recognition could be envisaged when concrete implementation measures – guaranteeing both the security of Israel and the right to the self -determination of the Palestinian people – will have been engaged”.
“The current situation is unbearable and we have to act urgently,” said Monika Schmutz Kirgöz. The press release speaks of “the collapse of basic services in the entire Gaza Strip and, facing the worst scenario, that of famine, which is currently taking place, Switzerland supports several partner organizations which provide humanitarian aid to the Gaza population”.
In New York, Switzerland recalled the need for all parties to strictly respect international law, including international humanitarian law, as well as the United Nations Charter and UN resolutions, “in order to be able to break the vicious circle of violence”.
