It has been prohibited in Belgium for over a year, but one in four automatic distributors still sells alcohol


A quarter of automatic distributors still sells alcohol despite the ban in force since July 1, 2024, according to the SPF Public Health.



One out of four automaton still sells alcohol, despite the prohibition that came into force on July 1, 2024, reported on Thursday different daily newspapers, including Het Belang Van Limburg, on the database of the Federal Public Public Service (SPF) Public Health.





In the second half of last year, 314 automata were inspected. Result: 29% of them still sold alcoholic beverages. Since the beginning of 2025, 325 automatic distributors have been checked. Among them, 23% were not in order. In total, this represents 26%, one in four distributors. Operators who do not comply with this ban are exposed to fines between 208 and 24,000 €.






The sale of alcohol in hospitals is also more regulated. Alcohol can always be served in cafeterias, but only non -refrigerated beer and wine are allowed in shops. Of the 70 hospitals explored, 15 have received warnings. In other words, almost one in five hospital still breaks the new legislation.

New checks and possible sanctions will follow in the fall, said the SPF Public Health.
