Volodymyr Zelensky defends the law decried but says that it will present a new text in the Parliament which “will strengthen the law application system” against corruption
In the evening, the Ukrainian president announced in his daily speech that he would offer a new bill to the Parliament which “Will strengthen the law application system” Against corruption, without detailing the modalities. “All standards guaranteeing the independence of corruption institutions will be respected”promised the Ukrainian president.
“Unambiguous legislative measures are necessary to restore the guarantees revoked by the Parliament”noted the two structures, in a press release released after the meeting.
Earlier in the day, the Ukrainian head of state nevertheless taken up the cause for the new law, which taxes these structures against corruption with ineffectiveness. Mr. Zelensky assured “Hear what society says” and promised “Set existing contradictions”after having received the leaders of the organizations responsible for maintaining order, including the anti -corruption structures concerned.
He insisted on the importance of this text which removes the independence of the National Anti -Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) by placing them under the direct authority of the Attorney General, appointed by the President.
In the evening of Tuesday, a few hours after the vote, a thousand people, many of whom have gathered in the center of kyiv as a sign of protest, the first important demonstrations since the start of the Russian invasion, in 2022. A new action of protest of the same type is scheduled for Wednesday evening, although the great gatherings are prohibited under the martial law in force.
