Tens of thousands of people attended Basel at the big fireworks on August 1 on the Rhine on Thursday evening. With this spectacle in the night sky, the Rhine city celebrated the national holiday from the day before.
Up to 120,000 visitors were expected for the party on the Rhine, which took place in dry weather on both sides of the Rhine. Three bridges were taken by the public.
The highlight of the evening was the fireworks that started at 11 p.m. and lasted 16 minutes in total. It has been fired from two boats upstream and downstream from the middle bridge.
At the end of the afternoon, the Rhine and the Place du Marché were the scene of festivities with bistros, sales stands and live music, as well as a rowing competition and demonstrations of pump boats.
According to the police, no major incidents have occurred. Despite a far superior crowds 100,000 people, the emergency services qualified the year as a globally calm, said the Basel-city cantonal police in the night from Thursday to Friday. The intervention forces were however asked several times.
The big festival of the city will be followed on Friday evening by the official federal festival in Basel, on the Bruderholz, with a fire show and fireworks.
On July 31 and August 1, private fireworks are only authorized in Basel from 6:00 p.m. to 01:00 and are completely prohibited within a 200 -meter department of hospitals and animal parks.
