Lasalle | A reprieve for the Pig Timmy

A resident of LaSalle and her domestic pig can push a sigh of relief, at least temporarily. Saying “sensitive to the situation” of the animal named Timmy, the mayor of the borough announced that he was in discussion with the City of Montreal so that he can stay on his territory.

The announcement was made Monday evening by the mayor, Nancy Blanchet, during the Lasalle borough council, after the publication of an article in The press, Last Thursday.

On July 18, the borough had sent a notice of offense to Sandra Propetto, Intant to departing within 14 days of Timmy, the domestic pig who has accompanied him for 11 years.

The mayor first recalled that the regulations of the city of Montreal concerning the pigs on its territory was adopted in 2018 and that it applies to all the districts – that of LaSalle including. It is therefore not possible for the district to modify it or bypass it.

This regulation states that only people who already had a pig before summer 2018, who obtained the required permit and who have renewed it annually can keep their animal. Having his pig since 2014, Mme Propetto has not heard of the adoption of the rules in 2018 and therefore did not take the required steps.

“However, we are sensitive to the situation and we therefore made discussions with Montreal to examine whether an exemption request could be envisaged for this specific case,” said Mme Blanchet.

The mayor also pointed out that as long as the discussions were underway, there would be no observation of offense made for the presence of Timmy in the territory of the district. “We approach this file with all the sensitivity it deserves,” she added.

“I feel a little better, but I am still very stressed,” said Sandra Propetto in an interview with The press. You never know when the decision will happen, if it will take months, a year … I still wake up with a lot of stress. »»

However, she received numerous support messages following the publication of the article in The presswhich helps him to hold on. “I don’t know how I’m going to manage to answer everyone,” she laughs.

“I had so much support, I never thought I would have so much. Someone even came to bring a bag of carrots for Timmy even today! »»
