Manufacturing of the iPhone in India: Chinese workers return to their country

IPhone 178FoxConn, the largest Apple phone assembler, asks its Chinese workers to leave its factories in India that make iPhones.

According to what the Bloomberg agency reports, more than 300 Chinese engineers and technicians have returned to the country for two months.

This decision, which will have a hard hit on production growth in India is difficult to explain, say experts, because Apple announced at the end of April that the company was going to double its production of iphones in India by 2026.

This strategy was a way of bypassing customs tariffs by 145% then imposed by the United States, which President Donald Trump had deplored.

Several stakeholders from China, including politicians, also denounced this decision to transfer brains and export equipment to India, fearing the relocation of production.

This change comes at a bad time for Apple, which is preparing to accelerate the production of the new iPhone 17 with its manufacturing partners in India.

In addition, Foxconn is currently building a new factory for the iPhone in southern India.

According to Bloomberg sources, workers’ departure would not have an impact on production quality, but it is likely that this will affect the efficiency of the mounting chain.
