ANIMALS – Free chicken. The L214 association was welcomed this LDC poultry leader’s decision on Thursday, July 17, July 17, to comply with more severe criteria of animal welfare for the breeding of its chickens of the Master Coq brands and the Gauls.

“The Gauls and Master Coq abandon the worst practices”, continues in a statement the animal defense association, which led to the group for three years against the group. It is “A historical advance”add l214.

On its website, in the section “Raise sustainably”, con Thursday by AFP, the LDC group indicates that “Within the framework of his policy of improving well-being and animal protection, (he) will launch in 2026 for his marks the Gauls and Master Coq of new European chicken ranges (ECC) with the aim of extending these production practices in order to reach 100 % of the ranges under ECC by 2028”.

No more than 15 chickens per square meter

Moreover, “LDC will allow all its customers who have committed (or undertake) to meet all the criteria of the ECC, to be able to honor their commitments at the time of 2028”.

However, the group also ensures that “Already 89 % of farms in France are engaged in these sustainable breeding procedures in 2024. Our goal: 100 % by 2025”.

But for L214, all the specifications selected were not as strict as that of the ECC.

The ECC standard stipulates in particular that breeding does not house more than 15 chickens per square meter and does not resort to an ultra -rapid genetic strain, source of suffering for animals, explains Brigitte Gothière, the director of L214.

“This LDC commitment is the fruit of three years of public campaign and a constructive dialogue that we salute. It represents an important advance to reduce the suffering of animals and traces the way that all agrifood companies must now follow ”she added, evoking “A strong signal to the food industry”.

“We dialogue with all the stakeholders of our ecosystem for the sustainable development of the LDC group and its partner sectors”AFP told AFP a spokesperson for LDC, who provides 40 % of French poultry consumption.
