more than 400 hours of work on average

Flexi-Jobs experienced a sharp increase in popularity among those over 65 in 2024, it emerges figures published Thursday by the National Social Security Office (ONSS). The number of people in this age category that has resorted to 52.60% last year.

In 2024, 229,423 Belgians exercised a flexi-jobor 19.1% more than in 2023. This increase is partly explained by the fact that the system has been extended to a large number of new sectors, underlines the ONSS.

Last year, the Middle Flexi-Jobber made 219.10 hours. It is the pensioners who work most under this status. In 2024, they worked on average no less than 404.90 hours as part of the Flexi-Jobs system, against 186 hours for non-pensioned workers.

In 2024, a flexi-jobber won on average 3.342,40 euros. The median salary, meanwhile, is 1,712 euros.

Unlike salaried workers, pensioners are not subject to the annual salary ceiling of 12,000 euros. This difference clearly appears in statistics. In 2024, a pensioner earned an average of 6,425.50 euros as part of the Flexi-Jobs system, against 2,792.70 euros for a non-pensioned worker. As for median salary, it amounts to 1,467.60 euros for non -pensioned workers and 4,277.90 euros for pensioners.

Women are a little more numerous (52.30%) that men work as part of the flexi-job system. This trend is observed in all age categories, except among those over 65, where men are in the majority.

For the time being, the work-work essentially Flemish phenomenon: 85% of all flexi-jobbers are from Flanders. Brussels and Wallonia, however, recorded an increase in the number of flexi-jobbers of the order, respectively, of 27.7% and 43.9% in 2024.
