AFPFive minors died asphyxiated after a landslide in a gold mine in Bolivia, in the department of Potosi (South), where 73 people have been killed in mine accidents since the start of the year, police announced on Saturday.
Located at 4000 meters above sea level, the open -air gold mine of Amayapampa, where the accident took place on Friday, is the largest in Potosi and is operated by the Bolivia mining corporation (Comibol).
“Five major people were found in the mine. The cause of their death is asphyxiation by crushing. We assume that a pan of hill collapsed and crushed them, “Potosi police commander Fernando Benitez told the press.
According to the police, the five victims were not one of the regular comibol staff but had official authorizations to collect mining residues.
