A young German under 3 died after falling from an aquatic slide in Lopar on the Croatian island of Rab, police and local media said on Wednesday, July 23.
The exact circumstances of the accident have not been detailed by the police, but according to the local media 24 Saturdaysthe little girl was in her father’s arms on the slide of an water park when she slipped. The slide was 3.5 meters from the ground. The child fell on the concrete surface.
Two Czech tourists rushed to the little girl. The father, devastated, helpless, knelt near the motionless child and repeated in sobs: “Do not ask me anything … My daughter is dying!”.
“When the helicopter landed, everything stopped”
The girl was unconscious and suffered from multiple wounds putting her life in danger. She was transported by helicopter to Rijeka hospital, where she was admitted to the emergency room, the hospital confirmed to 24 Saturdays. She did not survive, according to the police press release.
“It is an understatement to say that we are all extremely upset. When the helicopter landed, everything stopped. We have all looked at the sky and hoped that everything would go for the best. Lopar has always been a family destination, we are sure and adapted to children, but a tragedy like this is unforgettable,” said Mayor Zdenko Jakuc.
The Germans are the first contingent of tourists in Croatia, which welcomes around 20 million visitors each summer.
