New Brunswick shines with 42 medals at the Canadian Francophonie Games

New Brunswick shone at the Games in the Canadian Francophonie, which took place from July 15 to 19 in Laval, Quebec.

The neo-Brunswick delegation, made up of 94 people, won 42 medals, taking 2nd place in the ranking after Quebec at this 8th edition of Jeuxfc.

This harvest is made of 15 gold medals, 17 silver and 10 bronze.

Malika Allain (#061) and Juliana Lemaire (#065) won gold and silver, respectively, at 800 meters U19 female, on July 18 at the Games of the Canadian Francophonie, in Laval.

The Games of the Canadian Francophonie are in three components:

  • Arts: Culinary art, improvisation, music, theater
  • Sports: Athletics, badminton, basketball, flag football, ultimate, volleyball beach
  • Leadership : public speaking, survival camp, social justice, media

In athletics, neo-Brunswickoises have particularly distinguished themselves. Amélie Côté and Juliana Lemaire bring back 5 medals between them.

It was really fun. Me and Amélie, we did the 1500 meters together and the 3000 meters, and we really pushed ourselves to our limits. When you do shopping together, you really encourage it a lotsaid Juliana Lemaire, Sunday.

It is not only one or two athletes who have made personal records, but indeed 65 % of our athletesrejoices Alain Lavoie, the coach of the athletics team.

In the shutter leadershipNew Brunswick won the second prize in the discipline Social Justice. The participants had the challenge of creating and presenting an awareness campaign on a given theme: the effect of social media on the mental health of adolescents.

The delegates come from these games with great enthusiasm.

I think this is one of the best experiences I lived in my life, because there were lots of people who were talking in Frenchsays Mohamed Selouani. Most [autres] Competitions, there were a lot of people who spoke in English, and there, one could communicate easily with the world.

New Brunswick has also won the Prix de l’Esprit de la Francophonie, which is given to the delegation which is distinguished by its relationship with the other teams.

Since the first edition which had taken place at Memramcook In New Brunswick in 1999, the Games of the Canadian Francophonie were held at the three years. However, the pandemic led to the postponement of the 2020 event, then the cancellation of the 2022 games, scheduled in Victoria in British Columbia.

Regina, and Saskatchewanwill host the next edition of the Canadian Francophonie Games in 2028.
