Microsoft announces many new features to come for Windows 11. They are already available for Insider members, and will probably be in a few days for all other users. So here is what awaits us with this update.

Microsoft has just published the Build 26100.4482 (update KB5060829) for insiders in the release channel Preview on Windows 11 version 24H2. The Release Preview channel is the latest step before the launch of features on the stable version of Windows 11. It is even more advanced than the beta channel. We can therefore expect most, even the entirety, of the new features brought by this update, be rendered available to all users from next monthprobably with the Tuesday patch scheduled for July 8.
A more personalized and adaptive taskbar
To start, the publisher announces several changes in the taskbar and the system status bar (the space to the right of the taskbar, by default). “The taskbar now resumes icons to accommodate more applications when the space is limited, which allows you to keep all visible and easily accessible icons”we learn. The user can adjust the display of icons in the settings by choosing from these options:
- Reduce icons size Only when the taskbar is full (default).
- Keep icons at their original size permanently by selecting “never” or use smaller icons permanently by selecting “always”.
To modify this parameter, simply right click on an empty area of the taskbar, to select “Task bar settings”to develop the section “Directors of the taskbar” and choose the option to which your preference is going in in “Show smaller buttons from the taskbar”.
Moreover, the indicator (pill) under the applications of the taskbar has been adjusted to make it wider and more visible. It is used in particular to indicate whether an app is open in the background.
A more efficient file explorer
Microsoft also has an optimized file explorer, with performance that has been improved when extraction of archive files. “This will be particularly useful in the case of copy and paste of a large number of files from voluminous archives 7Z or .rar”specify developers.
The Windows sharing function also gets some attention. When sharing links or web content via the dedicated window, a visual overview of this content is now displayed. Still in the Windows sharing window, you can select a compression level (high quality, average or low) during editing and image sharing, instead of a scale from 0 to 100.
A new PC PC migration experience is born with this version. “You will see the home and twinning page in the Windows backup application, offering you a first preview of what awaits you. In the full experience, you can transfer your files and settings from your old PC to the new during installation”explains Microsoft. In addition, assistance during installation will be available in an upcoming update, without details over the targeted availability period.
Windows 11 does not forget accessibility
The narrator, a screen reading tool, will now explain its new features and changes to users so that they are not lost after an update. A screen curtain option is also integrated to prevent third parties from seeing what you are in the process of consulting, particularly in public places. The keyboard shortcut. MAJ + CTRL + C allows you to activate and deactivate the screen curtain.
Like any good big patch, it comes with its share of corrective and optimizations. This version goes “Improve the user experience linked to display, in particular the reduction in the screen flashing in certain display configuration transitions and the deletion of unnecessary display resets that occurred in some cases”indicates Microsoft.
Regarding the fever, three bugs have been resolved:
- When you press Alt + Tab to leave a full screen game, other windows (such as the Windows terminal) can stop answering
- An underlying problem can cause unexpected changes in size and window position after standing/recovery for certain devices.
- Explorer.exe can stop working unexpectedly when moving a window if the window hanging is activated.
Hopefully this update does not cause more problems than it solves. The Windows 11 patch in June caused a bug cascade.
