Pyongyang has “no reason” to resume diplomatic dialogue with Seoul, said the influential sister of the North Korean leader on Monday. The new South Korean president, who came to power in early June, promised to reach out to Pyongyang.
(Keystone-ATS) “We once again clarify the official position which is that, regardless of the policy adopted in Seoul or the proposal made, it does not interest us and there is no reason to meet the Republic of Korea or matter to be discussed with it,” said Kim Yo-Jong in a statement relayed by the official agency KCNA.
The influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un spoke of an “irreversible” incompatibility between the two countries still technically in war, conflict in 1953 by an armistice and not a peace treaty.
This development comes when the South Korean president Lee Jae-Myung (center-left) promised to reach out to Pyongyang, arguing that, “whatever the cost, peace is preferable to war”.
“Worse calculation error”
Since coming to power, Seoul has ceased to issue anti-Pyongyang propaganda by loudspeakers along the border. North Korea has shortly after decreed to broadcast the disturbing noises which disrupted the days and nights of the inhabitants of the South near the area. But this sound relaxation does not mean that South Korea can believe in diplomatic relaxation, warned Kim Yo-Jong.
If Seoul “hoped” to reverse the situation “with a few sweet words, there is no worse calculation error than this,” she thundered.
Lee Jae-Myung nevertheless wants to break with the line of his predecessor Yoon Suk-Yeol (right), which held very firm rhetoric towards Pyongyang and tightened the links with the United States. Intercorean relations have reached their lowest point for years during its mandate.
Mr. Lee wishes for his part a cross -border dialogue without conditions.
