One in three new vehicles had a socket in July

A third of the insured in Switzerland plan to change cash-Maladie for next year. Even more striking, according to a survey of the comparative site bonus.ch, 30% declare themselves ready to give up purely and simply to the health insurance obligation. In question: the increase in premiums.

Two years ago, in 2023, 19% of the Swiss population turned to a new service provider, Bonus.ch recalls Tuesday. In 2024, faced with a historic increase in bonuses of 8.7%, 17% were changing cash. For 2025, it is also 17% of the insured people who turned their backs on their insurance. And for 2026, bonus.ch predicts 32% of people terminating it.

In the past two years, Ticino has been the canton most affected by the increase in premiums-maladie with an average increase of 10.5 %. Also, the highest change rate is recorded in Italian Switzerland (21 %), while it reaches 17 % in German -speaking Switzerland and French -speaking Switzerland.

Ticino breaking

Italian Switzerland appears as a region breaking with the current system, with a record number of 66% of insured people who display the intention to opt for a new provider. German -speaking Switzerland displays the highest inertia in the face of change, with more than eight people out of ten who do not plan to terminate their insurance. Finally, 32% of the Romans plan to turn to another health service provider for the year 2026.

Bonus.ch became interested in a way to reform the current health system: he asked those surveyed if they would be ready to give up the obligation to have health insurance (free choice to secure or not). Result: almost a third of the respondents responded in the affirmative. For his survey, bonus.ch questioned more than 4,500 people last May.

Loss of confidence

The other comparison site, Compais, also published a survey on Tuesday. According to him, confidence in health insurance is crumbling, since almost 40% of Swiss perceive gaps in compulsory protection despite its constant extension.

The idea of reducing the coverage of basic insurance and outsourcing services to additional insurance comes up against a refusal, despite the high premiums. It is a dilemma, because no one wants to give up anything and no one wants to pay more.

More than three -quarters (78.8%) of those questioned have already taken out at least additional insurance. And taking into account the perceived deficits, 47.5 % want to strengthen their protection.

The complementary service relating to comfort at the hospital is considered to be the most important. “It is a typical phenomenon of prosperity. The question is no longer whether we are going to cure, but in what comfort,” analyzes Felix Schneuwly, Health Insurance Expert at Comparis. Hospitals responded to this need by developing hotel comfort.

The representative survey was carried out by Innovact on behalf of Comparis.ch in June 2025 with a sample of 1029 adults from all regions of Switzerland.
