Perrier, San Pellegrino, Rozana … What is the best sparkling water for health? A dietitian-nutritionist responds

There are two types in bottles. Those naturally gaseous, that is to say that CO2 is already present in the source (of volcanic or geological origin), as is the case in Badoit, Vichy Saint-Yorre, Quézac or even Rozana. More or less sparkling depending on the brands, they are often mineralized. And then there are those gased artificially, that is to say that gas is not present in the source, CO2 is added industrially to flat water (mineral or source). This is the method used by Salvetat, Perrier or San Pellegrino and all water bearing the “Source Water with the addition of carbon dioxide”.

A choice oriented according to his needs

But is there a better than others? Not in absolute terms, according to the dietitian-nutritionist, Raphaël Gruman, questioned by Health Magazine. “Bottle sparkling waters each have their specificities, and the best choice therefore depends on the needs or contraindications of each. Thus, water -rich water will be not recommended for a hypertensive person but recommended for those who sweat a lot.

Among the least salty sparkling waters, we find the sparkling crystal clear, the Salvetat or the Perrier fine bubbles. Moderately sodium, the San Pellegrino adapts to a less strict diet. Among those that contain the most calcium, an essential mineral for bones, teeth, muscles and nervous balance, Rozana arrives very largely in mind, with its 490 mg/l. But its strong sodium content does not make a drink recommended for all. For the nutritionist Raphaël Gruman, “Le Perrier is a good compromise”

Finally, for athletes, who undergo significant sodium losses, it is important to rehydrate by reconstructing your sodium reserves. Gaser drink is a good way to get there. For this, Vichy St-Yorre (1700 mg/L) and Vichy Célestin (1170 mg/L) are strongly recommended by the dietitian-nutritionist. Rich in magnesium, they guarantee excellent muscle recovery.
