This 29 -year -old Italian volleyball player says she was put to the door by her Pérouse club – a resident of the Italian championship – because of her pregnancy. “A beautiful love story ended in an unimaginable psychological violence, of which I simply do not understand reason,” she moves in the columns of the daily Turin.
Nothing predestined such a way out. Installed at the high level for ten years, Asja Cogliandro claims to have always fed excellent relations with the leaders of Pérouse. A sign of the mutual confidence that reigned, the player initialed an extension of a contract when the Umbria team – region of the country center – accessed the first division, in spring 2024. A few months later, she fell pregnant and informs her sports director. “He was mad with joy and hugged me in his arms,” she says before adding: “The situation changed overnight.”
“It’s time to say stop”
After the positive initial reaction of her superior, Asja Cogliandro says he was pushed towards the output without managing. “The club asked me to go and repay the wages already perceived. They have become firm: ” you have to leave ”, “she says, denouncing” psychological violence “. “They treated me with ungrateful, threatened me,” she insists.
The Italian specifies to “La Stampa” that she formulated in her management the desire to find a compromise and claimed a suspension of her contract. For the moment, no agreement has been reached. “I had injuries during my career. As long as you stop, you are paid. But if you are pregnant, you have to leave, she deplores. There should be more protection. If we continue to accept compromises, I will not be the last. It’s time to say stop. “
