The contract will be under the responsibility of Infra Cité, a subsidiary of CDPQ Infra, which will now assume the project management, can be read in a press release from the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility published on Monday.

Alstom was thus able to demonstrate that its rolling stock meets the technical and performance requirements of CDPQ INFRA. The costs of acquiring and maintaining the equipment proposed by Alstom, “despite the new technical requirements of the project, remain comparable to those of the existing contract of 2023,” said the ministry.

For the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Geneviève Guilbault, it is “a more than satisfactory outcome”.

«[Ce transfert] Avoids the additional deadlines and costs that a new call for tenders could have caused, while priority is to deliver the best project at the best cost, “she said.

“This agreement will make it possible to preserve quality jobs in Quebec, especially at the Alstom factory in La Pocatière,” added Mme Guilbault.

In a statement sent by email, the multinational Alstom also emphasizes the contribution that this project will have on the Quebec economy.

“The trains meeting the requirements of the tramcité project will be designed and assembled in Quebec, not only supporting around 150 direct jobs in St-Bruno-de-Montarville and La Pocatière, but also to use several local suppliers,” she wrote.

Alstom says he is “very happy” that the Quebec government as well as CDPQ is infraging their confidence for the manufacturing and maintenance over 30 years of the 34 cars of the tram.

Recall that since October 2024, CDPQ Infra takes care of the analyzes necessary for planning phase 1 of the plan cited.
