A third of federal expenses dedicated to defense
In its 2025 budget bill, the Kremlin had already announced a 30 % increase in military spending, as the Figaro recalls. For this year, defense expenses should therefore reach 13,500 billion rubles (130 billion euros, editor’s note), which represents nearly a third of total federal expenses. In 2024, this budget increase was even greater since it amounted to 70 %, thus representing 8.7 % of Russia’s GDP.
If at first the Russian authorities seemed confident in relation to the success of their “special operation” in Ukraine and optimistic about a rapid favorable conclusion.
