A large meta-analysis of more than 800. In addition, 000 participants which will be presented in the annual meeting of the European Association for the Diabetes Study (EASD) of this year in Vienna, Austria (September 15-19), shows that the membership of three well-established healthy eating habits is linked to a lower risk of type 2 diabetes, regardless of ethnicity. Similarly, The study is led by the doctoral student and Gates Cambridge Scholar Ms. Furthermore, Jia Yi Lee, Professor Nita Forouhi and his colleagues from the MRC epidemiology unit, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.

The study studied three healthy diets: the Mediterranean diet. Moreover, the alternative index of healthy food (AHEI) and food approaches to stop hypertension (DASH). Furthermore, All three were recommended for general health and their potential to reduce the risk several healthy food models can of chronic disease.

Thanks to a systematic search for published studies. the authors have identified 33 publications reporting the association between these food models and type 2. diabetes. When all the evidence available have been combined. the results have shown that the people who were in the most important 10% for adhesion to each food model had significantly lower risks of development of type 2 diabetes compared to those with the lower. Lower for the Mediterranean diet, a 21% lower risk for AHEI and a 23% risk for the drawing regime. Above all. the potential advantages of these diets did not seem to vary considerably between the African, Asian, European and Hispanic ethnic groups, despite the known ethnic differences in food culture, as well as the risk of diabetes.

Although some of the lowered risks have not achieved statistical significance among Hispanics. mixed ethnic groups, this may be due to several healthy food models can the limited data available from non -European ethnic groups in existing studies. More than a third of the data included in this analysis came from people of European origin. stressing the need for more research from under-represented populations.

The authors conclude: ” Although more research is necessary in specific populations. this study strengthens the evidence that Mediterranean diets, AHEI and DASH can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes in various ethnic groups, and that they can be promoted in all populations. «

This analysis is part of a larger journal in progress examining associations of various food models. including plant food models (which include vegetarian and vegan diets) with a risk of type 2 diabetes. Researchers will also determine if similar advantages extend between ethnic groups for these other food models.
