I went to test, and spoiler: to put on skiing, you have to take out the muscles.

Do you dream of putting yourself in a very fine but extremely sheathing underwear, if possible by looking more like Kim Kardashian than Bridget Jones? Say no more. Since July 31, Globus has been hosting one of the most hype brands in terms of “what if we tried to force your body to enter an airline chamber?”.
Since its launch in 2019, Skims has been propelled to the rank of world Shapewear star thanks to a simple recipe: from the inclusive (xxs to 3xl sizes, a multitude of “skin color” shades), Kardashian marketing, and this promise that your body will take on the looks of Greek statue as soon as you have jumped in one of their bodys.
On the shelves of the Geneva store, the flagship resembles a pantone color chart underwear. Dozens of models in beige, sand, caramel, cocoa. Everything is smooth, minimalist, calibrated to make it pretty on Instagram. That’s for packaging. But what about the product?
Put on a skim: the obstacle course
I chose one of the most iconic products: the famous cycling body, supposed to maintain everything, smooth, erase. And, to start, we believed in a major error. Remove from the package, the thing looks like a combination for children.

Alright. Three minutes and 28 seconds of battle later in the fitting room – contortions, apnea, and a small moment of solitude asking me if I was going to get stuck – Miracle: the thing is in place.
And there, yes, it’s effective. A little too much, even. I no longer know exactly where my vital organs have passed, but everything is flat and compressed, my jeans suddenly floats a little more at the waist. It’s stunning … As long as you don’t try to breathe deeply or imagine running a marathon with that under your sports clothes.
Skims keeps a simple promise: reshape the silhouette with ultra-compressive elastane. On this point, contract completed. But you have to accept the idea that, to achieve this result, you have to fight a little, sweat a lot and qualify the feeling of comfort praised by the brand. Comfortable under a dress with a dinner cocktail rocked by old jazzy elevator music? Yes Ma’ame. Under a dress to go dancing until 4 am, making big differences on the track? Nope.
In any case, with this arrival in Switzerland, Globus offers a beautiful showcase and Kim Kardashian still extends his Shapewear Empire. Me, I leave with a certainty: skiming, it’s a bit like a love-hate relationship. It cuts the breath a bit, it compresses … but it’s hard to deny the waouh effect once you are in it.
