Slam (France 3): Why will the show be deprogrammed on weekends from the start of the school year?

The faithful of Slam will have to get used to a new timetable … From Saturday September 6, the game of grids led by Théo Curin will no longer be broadcast on weekends on France 3. A decision that marks a turning point, since the program was offered every day of the week during the past season. This change comes in a context of broader reorganization of the games of the public chain.

Questions for a champion disappears during the week

Already last July, France Télévisions had already announced the abolition of Questions for a champion During the week, an announcement that had aroused a strong reaction from Samuel Étienne and the launch of a viewers petition. The host had even proposed to sacrifice his head to allow the show to stay on weekdays, in vain. At the time, Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez, director of antennas and programs, had justified this orientation by a budgetary imperative: “We save, we will remove a line of games, quite simply. The afternoon fiction block will be extended and the two games will be advanced or pushed”.

Slam leaves the weekend grid

Questioned by Télé-LoisirsSimone Harari Baulieu, producer of Slamconfirms that the decision responds above all to a financial logic: “It is for reasons of economy. There will be two less programs per week for Slam And five less for questions for a champion “. Since 2015, France 3 offered the weekend The great slambefore returning in 2024 to a daily distribution of the classic version. But the producer admits having to adapt: “We would have liked it to continue but we understand that France Télévisions be in a situation of budgetary restrictions and efforts requested from everyone. It is up to us!”.

This upheaval also causes a shift of schedules. From now on, Slam will be scheduled at 6 p.m., against 5:20 p.m. previously, always preceded by Family duels. An additional challenge, recognizes Simone Harari Baulieu: “This is a huge change. Competition and the public at 6 p.m. are not quite the same. It is much more difficult but it is a mark of confidence in Slam very important on the part of France Télévisions“.
