The Sardinian novelist Piergiorgio Pulixi, who came to visit Montreal last fall, succeeded in a new tour de force with this sixth thriller translated into French.
His four fetish investigators-the vice-container Strega, the inspectors Mara Rais, Eva Croce and their colleague from the North, Clara Pontecorvo (met in The seventh moon) – all of them find themselves in Sardinia in order to elucidate the wild assassination of a young woman found on the famous beach of Giorgino.
The star author of the Italian thriller offers us a real snorkeling in the ill -famed districts of Cagliari, marked by a history made of violence and poverty, and where the hostility of the residents towards the police makes the work of the investigators all the more difficult.
In parallel, he continues to probe the deep causes of crime through his Strega character, an emeritus criminologist who reveals himself here in all his complexity. We also learn a little more about the tragic past of this one and the evil that afflicts him, while a mysterious woman spins him in the streets of Milan, going so far as to enter her apartment when he goes to Sardinia to lend a hand to the special unit of investigation.
Far from running out of steam, the series takes a turning point with this new title which confirms its place among the best in the genre at the moment. It only remains to wait for the translation of the next, which has already been published in Italian.
