After offering us a short respite, thunderstorms will return to Quebec to start the weekend. However, they will be much more modest than those who hit several Saint-Jean festivities at the start of the week. Forecast.
The rain has arrived
The week ended in the rain in several regions of Quebec. In Mont-Tremblant in the Laurentians, we have measured 43 mm of rain since Friday afternoon. Témiscaming received 33 mm, while in Nicolet and Deschambault, we measured 35 mm and 39 mm. At 6 a.m. Saturday morning, we measured 16 mm of rain since Friday afternoon in Quebec.
Some lightning
Some may have been awakened by a few thunderclap during the night from Friday to Saturday. We have indeed observed some nested thunderstorms with the hot front which crosses southern Quebec. A little lightning here and there, but nothing like storms that forced the cancellation of several festivities at the start of the week.
A certain uprising
A cold front will appear on Saturday afternoon. It will therefore cause a warmer air uprising and the formation of thunderstorms. This time, we are talking about isolated thunderstorms, therefore which could strike certain specific sectors when there will be no activity a few kilometers away.
A little more vigor
These thunderstorms could be a little more strong, however. There is no question of violent thunderstorms, but the rain could be very generous during a short period of time. Abitibi-Témiscamingue, the Laurentians, the Outaouais, the entire St. Lawrence Valley to Charlevoix, Beauce and Estrie could see some thunderstorms on Saturday.
A marked difference
In the south of the province, temperatures will be quite hot and above all, humidity will still be present on Saturday. We will therefore have a feeling of 35 in Montreal, with a maximum of 26 °. In Gatineau, there are a maximum of 27 ° with a feeling of 36. The situation will be different downstream from the St. Lawrence. In Quebec, Mercury should not exceed 17 ° Saturday, with a feeling of 16.
Good to know:
We speak of violent thunderstorms when the thunderstorm cells have the potential to generate one or more of these weather phenomena:
-
Gusts over 90km/h
-
Hailstones 2 cm in diameter or more
-
Quick and abundant rain accumulations (more than 50 mm in less than a hour)
-
Possibility of tornado
