This Friday, the president of the National Council, Majoa Riniker (PLR/AG), said in the newspapers of CH Media that she had been awakened on July 10 in the middle of the night at 1:30 am by an alert in the city of Vinnytsia, in the center of the country. She explains that she had to go to an anti -ientomic shelter for two hours to take shelter. Faced with the stress of the war, which has lasted for more than three years, she has seen that the Russian aggression was still “a huge charge” for the population.
However, she clarified that she herself did not feel in danger during her trip, “because most meetings take place two floors underground”. The president was accompanied by the national councilor, president of the national foreign policy committee, Laurent Wehrli (PLR/VD).
The Swiss parliamentary delegation was received by Rouslan Stefantchouk, the president of the Ukrainian parliament. She also met with other representatives of the Ukrainian parliament, as well as the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenski. Political discussions focused on war, international support for Ukraine and the humanitarian needs of the population.
In a press release from Parliament, it is recalled that since the start of the war and until the end of May 2025, the Confederation put around 5.16 billion francs available to support the people affected by the war, whether they are in Ukraine or Switzerland. From 2025 to 2036, Ukraine will benefit from new support of 5 billion francs – “this is the most important program in the history of international cooperation in Switzerland”.
