Switzerland has attracted a “new audience”, according to Dominique Blanc

“I retain two highlights: the decisive goal in the 93rd minute against Finland, and the march of the fans which gathered 25,000 people yesterday (Red: Friday) in Bern before the quarter -final,” said Dominique Blanc at the time of taking stock alongside Pia Sundhage and the director of women’s football at ASF, Marion Daube.

“We have seen people who usually come little at the stadium coming to support us. It was a family audience, with many children, who became interested in football thanks to the aura released by this team,” continued the outgoing president of the ASF.

Future of Sundhagus not decided

Asked about the future of Pia Sundhagus, Marion Daube closed any door. “PIA to a contract until the end of 2025 and all the possibilities are envisaged,” said the manager. “We do not want to engage in one direction or another so shortly after the euro. We will take the time to think about it, but the final decision will return mainly to Pia.”

Marion Daube also hoped that the dynamic caused by the Swiss team will continue in the future. “We will have to take advantage of this momentum in the fall. And I speak to everyone by saying that football continues in the meantime, whether in regional leagues or in Super League. Go see the matches, support women and girls, get involved. We have aroused great interest and I’m waiting for a lot of the future,” she said.

This historic qualification for the quarterfinals of one euro also established new standards for Switzerland. “Our goal is to qualify for all the final stages of international tournaments, whether with team A or young people,” said Marion Daube. “Pia has managed to integrate the new generation and experienced players all made an important contribution. The team spirit is really remarkable and this allows us to envisage the future serenely.”
