The benefit of TF1 weighted by an exceptional surcharge

The net profit of TF1 fell sharply in the first half, going from 96 to 78 million euros (73 million francs), due to an exceptional surcharge and “macro-economic uncertainty” weighing on advertising revenues.

(Keystone-ATS) “The surcharge should weigh between 20 and 25 million throughout the year 2025,” said the financial director of the French television group on Tuesday, Pierre-Alain Gérard, who stressed that outside this exceptional element, the group’s benefit is almost stable, as well as its consolidated turnover at 1.1 billion euros.

Advertising turnover, to 782 million euros, underwent a slight decrease (-2.5%) due to “the intensification of macroeconomic uncertainties since the beginning of April 2025”, which “weighed on the investment of advertisers”, but remains carried by the advertising turnover of TF1+.

35 millions de streamers

Launched in January 2024, the streaming platform saw its advertising turnover increase by 41.4%, to 92 million euros.

“TF1+ brings together 35 million streamers per month on average in the first half of 2025, with a new record of 39 million streamers reached in June,” said the group in their press release.

A new form of monetization of TF1+ will be set up from September, through the “micro-payment”. “In return for the payment of a modest sum”, which has not yet been specified, users will have access to high quality content without advertising cut.

On the programs side, “Hello! “Becomes the third morning of television and will be extended 30 minutes at the start of the school year, the group announced.

TF1 also notes the positive impact of TNT’s numbering change on the audience of its Info LCI channel.

The media branch of the TF1 group is confident for the second half of 2025, which will notably be marked by the return of the “Star Academy” and the “HPI” series, with Audrey Fleurot, for its final episodes. New fictions will be launched on TF1 and TF1+, such as “Montmartre” and “Summer 36”.

On the sport side, the group, which broadcast the Euro women’s football 2025 in July, will broadcast the Women’s Rugby World Cup from August 22.

The other perspective which allows “to open new advertising horizons” for TF1 is the agreement signed with Netflix: from the summer of 2026, all Netflix subscribers in France will be able to watch the channels of the TF1 group and the content on demand of TF1+, directly on Netflix.
