If the canton of Vaud was as efficient as Bern in terms of social assistance, it could save nearly 250 million francs per year, without touching the services. This is the conclusion of a study which should spice up the Vaud’s political school year. Commissioned by the Vaudoise Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CVCI), this work carried out by the Swiss Economics Institute aims to analyze the efficiency of the Vaud administration, that is to say its ability to transform resources into concrete results for the population. This study, that Time Applied as a first time, is based on an intercantonal comparison between Vaud and in particular Berne and Zurich.
While Vaudois tax rates are higher than most other cantons, this study questions the use of tax revenues. “A canton is considered more efficient when he manages, with comparable resources, to provide more or better public services than others,” said the study. This survey, which aims to be objective and independent according to the CVCI, intervenes in a context of strong tensions in connection with the so -called “12%” initiative, which aims for a tax reduction of this magnitude.
