The new frame of motorized units
These 6×6 machines, acquired as part of the CAMO program (motorized capacity) formalized in 2018, must re -equip the five battalions “of maneuver” of the terrestrial force, currently endowed with armored vehicles Piranha III and Dingo II, but also in the long term the future Battalion of Belgian-Luxembourg recognition.
Mol CY must deliver around twenty griffin this year. The first copies will join the Bevrijding-5 Linie battalion (in French Liberation-5ᵉ of Bourg-Léopold by the end of the year. The other four motorized battalions will be converted to this new ultra-modern equipment by 2030. The griffin are qualified as“Infovalorized” – because completely connected thanks to the “veronic” (on -board electronics).
The initial camo contract, amounting to 1.6 billion euros, did not “what” On the purchase of 382 Griffon and 60 Jaguar (armored and combat armored vehicles, EBRC). The Franco-Belgian partnership program, also called Scorpion, has been enriched over the years. Camo-2 consisted in buying in two slices 28 long-range French artillery systems Caesar NG (truck equipped with a new generation artillery system), cannons freed from a 155 mm caliber made by the Nexter group, as well as 24 Griffon with a 120 mm mortar (MEPAC).
New orders in sight, but with more compensation
A Camo-3 contract is in gestation, relating to the purchase of griffon armored vehicles-at least 92-and at least 123 serval, lighter, admitted Theo Francken (N-VA), pending approval of his “Strategic vision” By the government, probably Friday. An additional jaguar slice is also planned to equip two cavalry battalions.
The Court of Auditors has estimated, in a recent report, the total cost of this program to modernize combat units at 14.7 billion euros over fifteen years. The army refutes any budgetary slip, stating that the earthly force (so far component earth) had “high level of ambition” To meet the requirements of NATO.
The federal government will however only approve contracts under negotiation within the framework of this new AIG than if Belgian industry benefits from more “Societal returns”according to Prime Minister Bart de Wever (N-VA). Mr. Francken, who defends the same reasoning, expects to sign this agreement in September.
