The Fontiers-Cabardès festivals end in music and memory

Three days of popular jubilation punctuated the village before the final homage.

The Fontiers-Cabardès festivals found their epilogue, this Sunday, August 24, with the traditional wreath laying at the Bosquet stele, after a religious office which gathered the faithful of the town, Banda in mind, in order to honor the dead for France of the various conflicts.

For three days, the festive tunes enchanted inhabitants and visitors from the region and besides to celebrate the owner’s patron saint.

This was the case on Friday in the evening, where the first magistrate Gilbert Plagnes officially handed over the keys to Saint-Clément, just to open the doors of the festivities that were to start, it is true, the day before at the Pantouquet restaurant, but canceled due to disastrous atmospheric conditions for the holding of a party that was above all friendly. The opening was made with the arrival of Saint-Clément, escorted by a cavalry and a torchlight retreat in a festive atmosphere, after an afternoon devoted to children, taken on a ponies course or in the meanders of the inflating castle.

An aperitif offered by the municipality and a doublet pétanque competition at night launched the festivities organized by the festival committee which also celebrated the ten years of its existence.

FOC former

The evening ended in music, before the no less traditional Saturday evening, where gourmets enjoyed themselves with regional dishes concocted by the Puech family, farmers well known for their farms in Gascon and Porcs.

To mark the event, the former FOC (Olympic Club Fontiers) and its first president Bernard Hernz, creator of a first local football team on May 11, 1978, raised the atmosphere of a memorable meeting: “It is the crucible of football in the black mountain, which then allowed Saint-Denis, Saissac, Villardnel and still Cuxac-Cabardès to create their own associations, which unfortunately do one currently after the stop of Saissac this year”, he said.

The party ended in a whirlwind of decibels. Fonts celebrations are over: revelers can wait for the 2026 edition with patience.
