The free method …

Android is my favorite mobile operating system. For the computer, I switch between Linux and MacOS (according to my needs). I often need to transfer files between Android and my two operating systems, but finding the simplest method was a real headache. Until I discovered Localsend.

Localsend considerably simplifies file transfer between Android and Linux/MacOS/Windows. If your phone/tablet and your desktop/mobile computer are on the same network, Localsend automatically finds each instance of the application, preventing you from adding them manually.

In other words, open local on your phone and computer, and the application will automatically detect any other app on the network. Once discovered, you can send or receive files/folders, text, or even stick content from your clipboard. It’s as simple as possible … and it’s free.

Comment installer Localsend

What you will need: an Android phone (or tablet) and a desktop computer. I will show you how to do it under Linux, because the installation on MacOS and Windows is as simple as opening the App Store, finding local and installing it.

Download the necessary file

There are three ways to install localsend: source, flatpak and .deb. As I use pop! _OS (based on Ubuntu), I will show you how to install localsend with the .deb package. Go to the premises download site and download the .DEB file in your ~/Downloads directory.

Installer l’application

Open your terminal and install localsend with the command:

sudo dpkg -i ~/Downloads/LocalSend*.deb

The installation should take place without problem.

If you use a distribution other than Ubuntu supporting the Flatpak installations, you can install localsend with the following command:

flatpak install flathub org.localsend.localsend_app

If, after installing localsend from Flatpak, you do not see the application in the menu of your office, disconnect yourself then reconnect; It should appear.

Use of premises

The use of premises is incredibly simple. Just open the application on your Android device and your computer. Each device will receive a random name. For example, my Android phone was called “Energy Pumpkin”, my MacBook “Fresh Raspberry” and my pop! _OS “Magnificent Blueberry”.

Send the file from your computer

Imagine that you want to send a file from your computer to your phone. To do this, click on Send in the office version of Localsend, then on File. Access the file to send and select it. Then select the device that will receive the file.

Receive the file on your phone

On your Android device, the incoming file will appear. Just press on Accept To save the file.

You could consider modifying the default folder for recording files on Android. I found that the default location does not work very well. For that, go to Parameters > Record. I recommend that you create a local file in downloads to simplify things.

This process is identical regardless of the operating system you use, which makes room for an excellent option, especially for those who use several operating systems.
