The French have sulk the booklet A since July, and it’s unprecedented

A “clear decollect”. According to figures published Thursday by the Caisse des Dépôts (CDC), the French withdrew 70 million euros more than they filed on their booklets A in July. An unprecedented situation since October 2024, even since 2015 for a month of July.

However, it is not without explanation since it coincides with a new drop in the rate of the booklet A this year, announced in July and effective since August 1, from 2.4 % to 1.7 %.

The LDDS is doing better

Conversely, the historic competitor – Euros of life insurance funds – is full since January by offering an average rate of 2.6 %, according to data published by the profession of the profession, ACPR, backed by the Banque de France. A rate that is not clear of taxes, unlike that of booklet A. As for the sustainable and solidarity development booklet (LDDS), it came better: the deposits exceeded the withdrawals of 340 million euros in July.

The French nevertheless combine a small jackpot on their booklet A and LDDS: 609.4 billion euros at the end of July, according to the Caisse des Dépôts. However, a record far from the total life insurance, beyond 2,000 billion euros.

LEP Little offered

The outset of popular savings booklets (LEP), reserved for modest households, has inflated by 450 million euros, an amount more seen since December 2024. But the large number of closures in the spring (for holders exceeding the resource ceiling) is leading the year 2025 of the LEP: its outstanding is down by almost 2 billion euros since December 31, 2024.

Banking establishments rarely highlight this product, however very advantageous for savers. The Banque de France only aims at a minimal increase, less than 3 %, of holders this year: 12.2 million at the end of 2025, against 11.9 million at the end of 2024.

This number remains far from the more than 19 million households identified as potential customers, including their savings capacity, and even further from the 31 million eligible people.
