New shock measure concerning Takata airbags. The Minister of Transport, Philippe Tabarot, made the decision, Tuesday, June 24, to extend a little more the recall and the prohibition of driving car equipped with the famous airbags which have fatal risks of explosion, in particular under conditions of high temperature and humidity.
The ministry therefore requests the general recall of vehicles with Takaka Airbags, regardless of the model, whatever the brand and whatever the age of the vehicle. In addition, it extends the immobilization-so-called “stop drive” measure-to all the cars equipped with Takata, all brands combined, in the overseas departments and territories, as well as in Corsica and, for vehicles manufactured before 2012, on metropolitan territory (excluding Corsica).
The general recall now concerns 2.5 million vehicles (600,000 more than before this decision) and, among them, the “stop drive” (Until the replacement of defective equipment “) is set up for 1.7 million vehicles, compared to 900,000 traffic prohibited vehicles before the new measure, or 800,000 new immobilized vehicles. The details of the more than thirty brands concerned and the targeted vehicles is available on the website of the Ministry of Transport.
