Fairphone unveils the sixth version of its modular smartphone. More elegant, more efficient and cheaper than its predecessor, this model marks a break in the strategy of the Dutch manufacturer.
Launched this June 25, the Fairphone 6 has a clear ambition: no longer addressing ethical consumers or DIY enthusiasts, but also seduce those who want a powerful and well -finished smartphone. At 599 euros, it becomes more accessible than its predecessor while improving all of its technical sheet. At a time when manufacturers multiply promises on sustainability without realizing them, Fairphone seems to want to prove that we can reconcile technological progress and respect for resources.
Fairphone 6: Equipment up to date
Long considered austere, the design of the fairphone evolves significantly. The Gen 6 model adopts a more contemporary silhouette, with clean lines, a mat plastic and redesigned photo sensors. The device also becomes more compact and lighter, while retaining its modularity: it is always made up of twelve replaceable modules, from the battery to the screen, passing by the cameras. A unique design on the market, which allows you to extend its lifespan without any particular technical knowledge.

Exit technical concessions: The Fairphone 6 now has a Snapdragon 7S Gen 3 processor, supported by 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage storage. Its 6.31-inch OLED LTPO screen offers an adaptive refreshment up to 120 Hz, well beyond the standards of the Fairphone 5. Autonomy also progresses with a removable battery of 4,415 mAh, compatible fast load 33 W. Even the photo shutter makes a front thanks to a 50 Mpx main sensor signed Sony, stabilized and supported by an ultra-angle The selfie camera climbs to 32 Mpx. A solid technical sheet, which places the Fairphone 6 in terms of its mid -range competitors.

Fairphone continues to bet on a sleek Android, without overlay or superfluous application, in version 15 here. The manufacturer also offers a “fairphone moments” mode, activated by physical switch, which limits access to five chosen applications: a way of disconnecting without deactivating your phone. On the updated side, the promise is ambitious: 8 years of safety corrections and at least 7 major versions of Android. This is more than what Google or Samsung offer, and a rare warranty for a mobile device.

Fairphone 6: a phone made to last
Where most manufacturers prefer to stick the components to avoid any repair, Fairphone plays transparency. It is possible to replace the different modules yourself simply with a screwdriver. The manufacturer thus offers various elements: a SIM card drawer (€ 8), a camera (€ 70), a speaker (€ 20) or a screen (€ 90). And if some parts cost more than those of a lambda smartphone, philosophy is clear: lengthening the lifespan of the device and avoiding overconsumption. Almost 50 % of materials are recycled or extracted ethically, and the rear shell accepts modular accessories made under the same conditions.

Last asset which should contribute to its democratization: the Fairphone 6 is not confined to the site of its manufacturer. It is found on sale both on Amazon and at other merchants such as Fnac-Darty or baker.

With its price of € 599, the Fairphone 6 remains positioned in a segment where the competition is tough. However, he is one of the few to offer such repairability and such a long software life. This is perhaps where its greatest strength lies: allowing users to get out of the imposed renewal cycle, without having to sacrifice the fluidity of daily use or the elegance of a well-designed device. It remains to be seen whether this model will appeal beyond the convinced of the ecological cause.
