The operator Bouygues Telecom victim of a large cyber attack, more than six million affected accounts

Bouygues Telecom confirmed on Wednesday that it had been the victim of a large cyber attack that led to the theft of personal data linked to 6.4 million customer accounts, including bank details (IBAN).

The incident, detected on Monday and now contained by the technical teams, led to the compromise of several types of information: contact details, contractual data, civil status or business information for professionals, as well as IBAN. In a message addressed to the subscribers concerned, the operator assured however that “the bank card numbers and the passwords of your Bouygues Telecom accounts are not impacted”.

Customers exposed to fraud attempts

Bouygues Telecom warned by e-mail or SMS all the affected customers. On a dedicated information page, the company alerts: “This situation could expose you to fraud attempts: email or fraudulent calls. By using your data, a fraudster can pretend to be Bouygues Telecom or another company and try, for example, to obtain additional information such as your bank card number or your usernames and passwords. »»

The operator filed a complaint with the judicial authorities and reported the violation to the National Commission for Data Protection (CNIL). He recommends that affected customers remain vigilant in the face of any suspicious solicitation. A few days ago, the operator Orange was also the victim of an intrusion provoking disturbances for business customers and consumer services.
