It must be said that many of the motorists have strongly deplored the savory tickets they started to receive last week. Some people who have not changed their habits and who borrow the bridge every day have even received several fines with almost a month late.
The taxation of a fine of $ 346, $ 520 or $ 806 has had a significant effect on the reduction in speed in the past few days. To be sure not to have a unpleasant surprise, it was not uncommon to see motorists reduce their speed to 60 km/h, or even 50 km/h on the Laviolette deck.
“All users circulating on the structure noticed a considerable improvement in respect for speed,” said regional spokesperson for the Ministry of Transport, Roxanne Pellerin.
This explains that the progress of the site of replacing the central slab no longer requires the use of photo radar. “The environment at the foot of the bridge will no longer be changed at all times,” she says.
“There were mainly two elements that made sure that the speed was to be lowered to 70 km/h at all times. The first was the presence of temporary elements, the bristing plates, and the last people who had been put in place will be withdrawn over the next night, “she begins.
“The second thing is that there were areas of reduction of track width and dropping between the replaced panels of the central slab and the other track panels,” she continues.
“That, from next week, the intensive work will be devoted to installing a sealing membrane and making paving, which will correct these drops and remove the reduction in track width.”
The limit soon enhanced
The speed limit on the Laviolette deck will even be enhanced at 80 km/h gradually by mid-August during the day.
Thus, once the first week of intensive work has been completed, the limit is raised in southern direction. The limit in northern direction will be maintained at 70 km/h until the end of the second week of intensive work will be held from August 3 to 7.
If the photo radar has made dissatisfaction, some people also praised its rapid implementation to reduce speeding on the Laviolette deck in the days announcing its arrival for an indefinite period.
“It is crazy how the speed limit is not respected without forgetting all these reckless drivers who pass from one track to another without worrying about the continuous line. It is more than one camera that would be necessary to put all these howluberlus in step, ”commented for example Francine Lapointe under an article of Novelist.
The MTQ has indeed observed dangerous behavior during the first two years of the site, while educational radars had captured very high speeds.
So much so that discussions have been started with the Sûreté du Québec to use one of the rare mobile photo radars that are available in the province. “We put it this year, because there was still a problem that has continued since the start of the site,” said Roxanne Pellerin.
This underlines that the difference between the passage of a person who respects the limit of 70 km/h is about a minute more than that which takes the risk of driving at 90 km/h.
