The poignant testimony of a survivor of the shooting in New York

Jessica Chen was on Monday, July 28 in the building on Monday, July 28, where a shooting killed five in Midtown Manhattan, New York (United States). This American woman told ABC News this terrifying moment that she lived from the inside. She was on the second floor of the building with around 150 people as part of her work when shots were taken “in quick succession” a lower floor.

A man wearing a bulletproof vest armed with a large caliber rifle had just entered the building. He killed at least four people, including a police officer outside the security service who was at the reception. He went up to the 33rd floor, continuing to shoot bullets, before killing himself.

“An SMS to my parents to tell them that I loved them”

When she heard the shots, Jessica Chen rushed into a conference room with dozens of other people. “We were really terrified,” she explains. They were barricaded there using tables and “remained frozen,” the American told ABC News. “I think it was obvious that many of us were young, that many had taken primary school training on driving to be held in the event of a shooting,” she said.

People were hiding behind the large screen of the room, on the floor with the tabled tables or even behind the curtains. One person among them was in direct connection with the police. “I sent my parents an SMS to tell them that I loved them,” says the young woman.

Once it was confirmed that the shooter was on the 33rd floor, the police asked them to go out slowly and in a presented manner. Jessica Chen came out of the barefoot building, but healthy and saved. “We were all in shock. Nothing can describe this feeling. »»
