Former Federal Councilor Doris Leuthard paid tribute to the outgoing president on Saturday, Gerhard Pfister. The Zugois was “the right person at the right time” for the party, she said before the delegates gathered in Bern.
(Keystone-ATS) Mr. Pfister was elected at the head of the Swiss PDC in 2016. Under his presidency, the PDC merged with the bourgeois-democratic party (PBD) and changed its name in the center. Mr. Pfister reoriented the party on the strategic plan and opened it to new voters, said Leuthard.
According to her, Mr. Pfister will remain in memories as the president who was able to show the strategic vision, the intellectual depth and the political courage necessary at the decisive moment. Today, the center is “a party without a populist orientation, but which has its feet on the ground, which is oriented towards the solutions and which does not divide,” added the former federal councilor.
Mr. Pfister’s successor must be elected on Saturday. The Valaisan Philipp Matthias Bregy is the only candidate in the running.
